Depression Counselling

It’s normal to feel sad or hopeless at times. In fact, it’s a normal reaction to loss or life struggles. But feelings of intense sadness, hopelessness or helplessness that persists for days or weeks isn’t normal. And, it might be something more. It might be depression – which is a very treatable condition. So, if you experience any of the symptoms below for any length of time, it’s a good idea to see your doctor, and seek out a therapist.

Signs of a Depression

  • Difficulty concentrating and making decisions
  • Feeling restless, irritable and agitated
  • Feelings of hopelessness
  • Loss of meaning or purpose in your life
  • Lack of interest in sex
  • Avoiding other people, even close friends and relatives
  • Feeling useless, inadequate or hopeless
  • Difficulty sleeping, waking up early, or sleeping too much
  • Physical symptoms such as pain, headaches, lack of energy
  • Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
  • Tearfulness
  • Getting no pleasure from life or activities you used to enjoy
  • Thoughts of suicide or just wishing you could just ‘disapear’

Pre and Postpartum Depression Counselling

Pregnancy and motherhood can be a very emotional time. It can be filled with joy, excitement and happiness, also with anxiety, fear or uncertainty. Pregnancy is an important time to focus on your health, especially your mental health. Because our emotions affect the baby; both in the womb and after birth.

Depression counselling will help you navigate life choices and cope better. We can help you meet the challenges that come with parenting. Also, counselling is a great resource to add to your support network. ‘Baby blues’ can hit hard and fast so having an existing  counsellor can help. Our counsellors work with many issues that may arise during pregnancy and after including infertility, miscarriages, terminations and traumatic birth experiences.

Depression Treatment

Treatment for depression is very effective and most of us wait too long to get help. So we end up suffering more than they need to. So reach out and get support. When choosing a therapist to help you, make sure that they are qualified. Meaning, they have at least a Master’s degree and are registered in your province. Also, make sure that you feel a connection with them. Because they might be the best therapist in your city, but if you don’t feel comfortable with them, counselling just won’t work.
