Kristen Johnston MA RCC | Clinical Director

Kristen is an experienced psychotherapist and the Clinical Director at Juniper Counselling. Clients find her approach to feel safe and supportive, while encouraging self reflection. Kristen utilizes a body entered approach to trauma counselling. She combined this with the latest research in interpersonal neurobiology and attachment theory. Resulting in a unique healing experience that will help you feel better faster.

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Kristen holds a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology. She has over a decade in the mental health field and is experienced in crisis intervention, prevention and education. Together you will choose from a variety of therapeutic techniques including focusing oriented therapy, emotional regulation, mindfulness and breathing techniques.

Her clients are usually adults and teenagers. Anyone seeking anxiety and depression counselling, healing from complex trauma, life dissatisfaction or depression. She also works with families to build healthy relationships and improve communication.

Kristen is active in mental health research. CBC and CKNW have interviewed Kristen to discuss healthy sexuality and gender identity in teens and young adults.

Awards

Kristen received the Adler Scholarship two years in a row. She is committed to embracing diversity, promoting inclusiveness and engaging at-risk youth.

Community Engagement

Kristen sits on the Board of Directors for CERA (Communities Embracing Restorative Action). CERA is a non-profit agency helping youth involved in crime. Furthermore, she has served as a member of the Joint Family Court and Youth Justice Committee for the Tri-Cities. This group addresses resources and legislation concerning families and youth in the area.

Clinical Supervision

Kristen supervises students completing their Master’s degree in counselling psychology. She is committed to offering quality, low-cost counselling options to the community.

Kristen is passionate about her work shaping future generations of therapists and her students receive safe, supportive feedback and guidance.
