Kristen Johnston MA RCC | Clinical Director

Kristen is an experienced psychotherapist and the Clinical Director at Juniper Counselling. Clients find her approach safe and supportive, while encouraging self reflection. Kristen utilizes a body entered approach to trauma counselling and it’s important to note that she combines this with the latest research in interpersonal neurobiology and attachment theory resulting in a unique healing experience that will help you feel better faster.

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Kristen holds a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology. With over a decade in the mental health field, she is experienced in crisis intervention, prevention and education, therefore you know you are in good hands.

Kristen works with men and teenagers in Port Moody. She works with you to over come anxiety and depression, heal from complex trauma, and deal with life issues. In addition, she works with families to build healthy relationships and improve communication. Furthermore, Kristen has a reputation for taking on the tough cases that other counsellors won’t take.

In addition, Kristen is active in mental health research and was a guest on CBC and CKNW to discuss healthy sexuality and gender identity in teens and young adults.

Kristen received the Adler Scholarship two years in a row for her committed to embracing diversity, promoting inclusiveness and engaging at-risk youth.

Community Engagement

Kristen is an active member in her community. She sits on the Board of Directors for CERA (Communities Embracing Restorative Action). CERA is a non-profit agency helping youth involved in crime. Furthermore, she has served as a member of the Joint Family Court and Youth Justice Committee for the Tri-Cities. In addition, this group addresses resources and legislation concerning families and youth in the area.

Clinical Supervision

Kristen’s committment to quality, low-cost counselling options resulted in the creation of a teaching clinic. She supervises her students work closely allowing for afforable counselling options for everyone. While she is their primary supervisor, students are supported by the entire Juniper team in addition. Kristen is passionate about her work shaping future generations of therapists therefore, her students receive safe, supportive feedback and guidance.
